CAPE TOWN – Google has announced that its free Google Docs word processor will get a grammar check function.
This feature will allow Google Docs to identify mixed words (such as "affect" and "effect"), incorrect times, misuse of commas and clauses, and more.
To do all this, Google says that it will rely on machine translation which is the same technology that it uses to translate between multiple languages.
However, adding an AI component to a grammar checker is not a new idea.
A major competitor, Grammarly, the keyboard and browser extension, also claims that he uses "a sophisticated system of artificial intelligence" to analyze the structure of sentences.
However, Google added that the grammar check feature will not be immediately available.
It is launched first for business users, and it will have to be activated by the administrator of a company for the users to be able to test it.
Google did not specify when the feature would be published to consumer accounts or the languages that the feature would support at launch.
In addition to the grammar check feature, Google also announced today compose a feature inside Gmail for business customers.
This full autocomplete feature for you based on the context of your email and was launched as "Experimental Feature" in May.
Google now says that it will be added an appropriate work function G Suite users in the "next few weeks."
