Basson encouraged the offenders to continue their work, claiming that there was still a lot of broken school furniture to repair and that she therefore looked forward to other projects of this type in the near future.
She also took a minute to urge offenders to discipline themselves and become productive citizens once released and to no longer commit a crime.
"I encourage you to be disciplined and respect the laws that govern you during your detention and to become law-abiding citizens after your release. If you are released, please do not come back here, "she pleaded.
The mayor of Keetmanshoop, Gaudentia Kröhne, echoed the governor's decision, pointing out that the project has two advantages: it benefits both learners and offenders, who acquire skills.
"Schoolchildren will be the lucky beneficiaries of restored furniture, but they will also provide offenders with technical and professional skills that they can use wisely once they have completed their sentences," she said.
The education officer, Rehabeam Nakanyala, who spoke on behalf of the education director of the region, expressed his sincere gratitude for the gesture, saying that the leadership had requested a demonstration of 39, interest in repairing broken furniture, but that it was unaffordable. taking into account the national financial situation, noting that the repairs were carried out free of charge.
"The only expense incurred by the education department was the purchase of materials and equipment," he said.
