Former Health Minister Richard Kamwi said that there had been a "fierce attack" by former Deputy Minister of Defense Petrus Iilonga, led by the highest authorities from the country.

Kamwi made the remarks at the Iilonga memorial ceremony at the parliament gardens in Windhoek on Friday.

"Many of us will never understand the fierce attack directed against the late Petrus Iilonga by the highest level of government and the party," said the former minister.

He added that "his absolute challenge and his principled nature have not won him many friends in recent years".

"Now that he's gone, of course, many good speeches will be splashed. However, towards the end of his life, he was blacklisted by those who claim to have fought with other peoples for freedom. "

He remained an ordinary member of Swapo until his death on December 12, 2018.

"This is what is not in line with the expectations of a Democratic Swapo and a Democratic Namibia," Kamwi said.

The former Minister of Health did not mention the names of people who allegedly targeted Ilonga.

His statement was part of a tribute to the late politician on behalf of his friends.

Kamwi described Iilonga as being honest, truthful, principled, unwavering, unwavering, and outspoken.

"He was a fearless defender of workers' rights. He was a fearless activist against tribalism and corruption. Especially, Petrus Iilonga was a voiceless voice, "said Kamwi about the revolutionary who was an indisputable patriot.

Ilonga has been nicknamed Ekanda.

Kamwi's message to the youth was to imitate the life lived by Iilonga and not to be used as chewing gum against their better conscience.
