Indie gem Stardew Valley will be multiplayer on August 1 – TechCrunch

Stardew Valley, the popular independent farming simulator (it's more fun than "agricultural simulator", I promise) is probably the coldest game of all time. But, without any multiplayer aspect, it can become … a little lonely. From farming to fishing to mining exploration, you always feel like a game that would be better with friends.

We will soon know if that is true. After about a year of work, the game will be cooperative multiplayer from August 1

There is a slight hitch: the multiplayer will be limited to PC / Mac / Linux, at first. The trailer (below) indicates that the support will be deployed on Nintendo Switch / PS4 / Xbox One "soon", but without going into details.

Multiplayer Stardew Valley will support up to four (4) players on the same farm, all players sharing the same money and the same farmland. According to this page on the Stardew Valley fan wiki, the groups will be able to tweak the game a little bit to their liking (in particular, they can make things happen like profit margins and the costs of the objects at stake). the players do the work that was previously designed for one.

Stardew Valley is surprisingly in-depth for a game built primarily by one person; While it's published by a company, the vast majority of the work – from pixel art, to music composition, to programming – is done by Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone. Earlier this year, it was reported that the game had sold more than 3.5 million copies. GQ made a profile on Barone and how he built the game.

Barone clarified a few things on Twitter shortly after the launch of the trailer:

  • If you've ever found your way in the multiplayer beta, there will be no major changes in public releases other than "some last-minute bug fixes"
  • While the work on the console versions is underway, it will not work. still has no release date in mind
  • screen or co-op in split screen – if you want multiplayer, you'll need your own device to play
