WINDHOEK – Police have finalized the investigation into the case of a 21-year-old woman who is accused of killing her retired boyfriend in February.
Appearing in custody, Victoria Goreses, 21, was informed yesterday of the end of investigations into her murder case.
According to the state, they are ready for Goreses to call on her to have the case sent to the Attorney General for decision.
The 21-year-old girl faces a murder charge for the death of her 70-year-old boyfriend Sakava Nathame. The prosecution alleges that Gorès unlawfully and intentionally killed Nathame by stabbing him several times with a knife. The incident occurred on 25 February in Ongava Street in Okuryangava, Windhoek.
Apparently, the two men quarreled after Nathame accused Goreses of being unfaithful. The argument became physical and Goreses would have pulled out a knife and stabbed Nathame several times.
In her defense, Goreses stated that she was acting in self-defense when she stabbed Nathame on that fateful date in question.
At the request of the state, Goreses had to be mentally observed because she appeared disorientated and out of touch when she first appeared in court.
The state wanted to know if Goreses was mentally fit to stand trial and whether she was suffering from a mental illness or defect at that time of the horrific crime of which she is accused.
However, according to her medical report, she is fit to stand trial and can be held responsible for her alleged acts. The report concluded that although she indicated that she acted in self-defense, she did not seem to feel remorse for what she had done.
The investigations being completed, Judge Johannes Shuuveni returned the case to 22 January 2019. Goreses was remanded in custody until his appearance in court.
