Stewart should play one of two stars of "Happiest Season", a romantic comedy conducive to a vacation with an LGBTQ love story in the center of the plot.
"Happiest Season" is expected to be the director's latest effort for actress Clea DuVall, who had her first feature-length film behind the camera with the 2016 feature comedy, "The Intervention." Duvall co-wrote the screenplay with his script partner, Mary Holland. The story takes place at an annual family holiday party where a young woman is considering making a proposal to her girlfriend. The plan takes an unexpected turn when the woman discovers that her partner has not come out cheerful from her conservative parents.
Stewart and DuVall are both members of the LGBTQ community, which means that "the happiest season" should be in good hands to deliver fun and honest truths about the new experience. This film is being edited by TriStar Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures and means that a new LGBTQ romance is finally being prepared in a Hollywood studio after "Love, Simon" this summer.
Stewart last appeared on the big screen in "Lizzie" and premiered "Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy" at the Toronto International Film Festival. The actress appears in the movie "Charlie Angels" TriStar, directed by Elizabeth Banks, next year. She will play the icon of the French new wave, Jean Seberg, in "Against All Odds" by Benedict Andrews.
Duvall's intervention garnered star Melanie Lynskie a dramatic performance award at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. The director is best known for her work as an actress, having starred in films such as "The Grudge", "Argo "But I'm a cheerleader" and "Girl, Interrupted."
