The long awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroidvania Guacamelee is coming this year. A new trailer for Guacamelee 2 revealed that the action-platformer is launched for PS4 and PC on August 21st.

Guacamelee 2 continues where the first game stopped, with luchador Juan Aguacate removed from supernatural adventures and fights. Everything changes when a new threat arises, and Juan is once again wearing the luchador mask that gives him his wide range of attacks and powerful abilities.

Like its predecessor, Guacamelee 2 will feature a local four-player cooperative, and a vast array of colorful abilities that offer new strategies for movement and combat. The same style of electro-Mexican soundtrack is also coming back, as well as the vibrant color palette used for graphics. The game promises the return of the familiar faces of the original, both friendly and ugly

However, there is has some changes this time around. Guacamelee 2 has twice as many different types of enemies than Juan to crush, and many more bosses. Juan will also unlock new abilities that he will only be able to use after he has turned into a chicken, instead of just finding new skills for his human form. He will learn these new chicken abilities from a kind of chicken Illuminati.

Fans of the original Guacamelee were surprised to learn that his sequel would not make his way to the PlayStation Vita. Guacamelee released on Vita, PS3 and PC in 2013, before being ported to Xbox 360, PS4, Wii U and Xbox One the following year. Guacamelee 2 could copy its predecessor and eventually make its way to other platforms – like Xbox One, Vita or Nintendo Switch – at a later date.
