CBS announced Wednesday its first winter performances, with the first-year comedy "Happy Together" receiving orders for several episodes.
"Murphy Brown" will also not receive additional episodes, but the sitcom's revival has always been designed to be a 13-episode series. Despite everything, "Murphy Brown" has not opened as well in the rankings as other recent sitcom resumes such as "Roseanne" (now "The Conners") and "Will & Grace". The show debuted at a rating of 1.1 among adults aged 18 to 49 and 7.5 million viewers in September in Live + Same Day. In Live + 7, the series has an average rating of 1.4 and 9.1 million viewers to date. The show also entails higher costs, in part because of filming in New York rather than in Los Angeles. There is still a chance that the show will be renewed, but for the moment, it seems unlikely.
"Happy Together", which brings together Damon Wayans Jr., Amber Stevens West and Felix Mallard, has never taken off in the ratings, opening its doors to 1.0 and 6 million viewers in Live + Same Day. In Live + 7, the multi-camera currently represents 1.1 and 5.5 million viewers. The show drew attention from the start given the determination with which many networks have turned to Wayans during the pilot season. The star signed a major contract with CBS that allowed her to score points in the program and a multi-year first look deal with CBS Television. Studios.
CBS will now present the new comedy "Fam" on Thursday, January 10 at 9:30 pm ET / PT after "Murphy Brown" completes its season order. The series features Nina Dobrev and Tone Bell in a comedy about a woman whose vision of a perfect life with her beloved fiancé and her wonderful parents is radically altered when her 16-year-old uncontrollable half-sister arrives unexpectedly live with her. Odessa Adlon, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph are also on the bill.
The third season of "Man With A Plan" will debut Monday, February 4th at 8:30 pm (Eastern Time) after the end of "Happy Together". Matt LeBlanc is back to old school life and faces the modern challenges of parenthood, marriage and family. Liza Snyder, Kevin Nealon, Stacy Keach, Grace Kaufman, Matthew McCann, Hala Finley, Matt Cook and Kali Rocha are also on the bill.
The first season of "Life in Pieces" will be announced at a later date.
