Using the used and faithful story of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol MWM Immersive, a division of Madison Wells Media, finally takes its logical conclusion to geolocated virtual reality and merges it with an immersive theatrical experience.
called Chained: a Victorian Nightmare, the new production combines live actors and an immersive framework with virtual reality to recreate a Victorian London.
The new production will debut at the GreatCo Experiential Studio on Friday and will run until January 6, 2019. It includes a Victorian-era ensemble in which one audience member at a time is outfitted with virtual reality headset by a professional actor. The individual audience experience is designed so that the viewer can interact all the time with live actors and objects.
Co-produced by MWM and the virtual reality studio Here Be Dragons, the chained The experiment was created and led by Justin Denton, also responsible for the immersive program. The executive producer of the project was Ethan Stearns of MWM Immersive, who was the shepherd behind Carne y Arena the virtual reality project of the famous Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu, winner of an Oscar.

The combination of immersive theater with virtual reality has long been (at least for me) the best use case of technology. Unlike a cinematic experience, immersive theater benefits from movement in an established environment and interaction with real-time distribution. A production such as "Sleep No More" would obviously be interested in an enhanced virtual reality experience and, if successful, the MWM Interactive experience could become a roadmap for increasing and encouraging the adoption of technology by a greater number of users.
This is an excellent gateway to the best use cases of virtual reality and a goal that more companies will likely pursue.
