Minister of International Relations Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met with members of the diplomatic corps on Thursday to raise awareness of Namibia's drought-related needs.

She noted that the assessment had also shown that the whole country was forecasting a crop reduction of at least 53% over last season's harvest and more than 42% by compared to average production over 20 years.
"This reduction is largely attributable to the low general rainfall received during the 2018/19 rainy season," she noted.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said that, given the situation on the ground, the Cabinet had approved drought relief interventions worth more than N $ 572 million to help households affected by food insecurity and farmers affected by drought in the 14 regions.
"The interventions are aimed at ensuring that no one is lost due to lack of food due to drought and preserving the main herds for drought-affected farmers.
