Pokemon can dominate public awareness right now thanks to the continued success of Pokemon GO and the ever popular 3DS games, but an old rival continues to turn around, and ready to challenge the franchise for the crown of collecting monsters.

Announced earlier in the year, Digimon Survive will be released by Bandai Namco Entertainment and is expected to be released in 2019.

The game will be released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch and will break with tradition regarding Digimon titles .

In Digimon Survive, the game is divided into two distinct parts: a "combat section" and a "dramatic section."

The first part plays as a strategy RPG (think Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Final Fantasy Tactics) and is probably why the game is calling it. Digimon Survive & # 39 ;. A pair of similar games, called Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Devil Survivor 2, seem to share developmental staff with games, and also feature a temporal, strategic and grid-based fight.

Quite oddly enough for a Digimon game, some of the characters may actually die in the game if you make the wrong choices.


If you're not in the kid-friendly mood we're getting Pokemon RPGs coming Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's go! Eevee, Digimon Survive could be higher up on your street.

The game seems to double the more hardcore RPGs and target a more mature audience – exactly the opposite of what Pokemon is doing with its diluted mechanics and GO-integration.
