A full version of Photoshop photo editing software could be available for iPads as early as 2019.
The move, reported by Bloomberg, would be a major development for professional designers and publishers, who had to do with a version sweetened from the popular Adobe tool on Apple's iOS devices. However, with the advent of the iPad Pro and competition powered by Microsoft Surface Pro, Apple is pushing the iPad as an alternative to notebooks and smartphones rather than a companion – and this gesture would help the company to put forward its arguments.
For Adobe, the move makes sense when it moved to cloud-based Photoshop software in 2012, allowing customers to use its software on multiple devices. The change is also part of an effort to "increase subscription sales," according to Bloomberg, which cited anonymous sources in the article.
In a statement to Fortune an Adobe spokesman said: let's not talk about unannounced products, Adobe has always supported the needs of customers on the platforms and the devices that are essential to them, and we are committed to enabling workflows that unlock multiplatform creativity for all. "
