A MARIENTAL who admitted to killing a teenager by strangling him in October 2016 has been sentenced to 51 years imprisonment to date for murder, rape and attempted murder today.
Judge Dinnah Usiku sentenced Hendrik Atab Swartz (32) to the High Court of Windhoek Penitentiary and said that, while regretting the murder he had committed, he had shown no remorse for the other crimes of which he had been found guilty.
The crimes for which Swartz was convicted were committed over a period of time, which allowed him to reflect on his actions – which he did not do, however, said Judge Usiku.
At the start of her trial last October, Swartz admitted to murdering a 16-year-old girl, Estonovia Games, in Mariental early the morning of October 20, 2016. He had strangled her after attacking her. after finding her walking home. only.
Judge Usiku also found Swartz guilty of rape, two attempted murder and assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm and injury to the crimen three weeks ago.
She found that Swartz had raped and attempted to murder a 12-year-old girl in Mariental on March 25, 2016 and that he had also attempted to murder a 19-year-old woman in Hardap on May 1, 2013. In both incidents the victims were also strangled.
Judge Usiku sentenced Swartz to 26 years of imprisonment for the murder of Games, to 15 years in prison for the rape committed in March 2016 and to a 10-year prison term for both counts of attempted murder. of murder – Swartz was thus sentenced to a full term sentence of 51 years.
Swartz was cautioned and released from office.
