Samsung Bixby Speaker | News, Rumors, Release, Specifications

To not be outdone by Apple's Siri's HomePod, Samsung would have developed a smart speaker equipped with artificial intelligence on its own. According to the Korea Herald, the unannounced device of Seoul, Korea-based electronics giant, will exploit Bixby, Samsung's omniscient digital assistant, to answer questions and commands with voice.

Here's all we know, including new information on price, form and launch date.

Release Date, Price and Availability

Samsung's high-end smart speaker has been previously confirmed to launch in the second half of this year. After the debut of the Galaxy S9 at Mobile World Congress 2018, Samsung's mobile division CEO, DJ Koh, announced that the smart speaker will "debut in the second half of this year." This is a bit later than the original suggested reports, which we had hoped for a launch in the first half of 2018.

More recently, in an article on a collapsible Samsung phone, the Wall Street Journal has reported Samsung as likely to launch the Bixby Smart Speaker in the next month. Samsung's Unpacked event for the Galaxy Note 9 is scheduled for August 9, which could also be the debut of the speaker.

That said, there have already been a number of delays, rumors announcing the launch of the product in late 2017. The English version of Bixby may have delayed the project.

According to a 2017 report in The Investor, Samsung questioned its decision to create a smart speaker in such a competitive market. An anonymous source familiar with the project said that Samsung has questioned the marketability of an artificial intelligence speaker, especially in a market where Amazon has cornered the industry with its popular high range Intelligent Speakers

. stopped Samsung's previous attempts to launch a smart speaker. Samsung tried to create a similar project in 2015, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal, but the project was abandoned due to software problems.

Bloomberg announced this year that the smart speaker at $ 200. At this price, it would be $ 200 less than the Google Home Max and $ 150 less than Apple's HomePod. According to The Verge, however, the price is now estimated at $ 300.

Design

Details are rare right now, but Patently Apple is referring to a Samsung patent awarded in March as the basis for the company's smart speaker. However, a more recent Bloomberg article states that the speaker will be between the size of the current Amazon Echo and Apple HomePod. The report also states that the speaker can come in a variety of colors. Samsung chose lights on the speaker to provide visual feedback as opposed to a screen that was broadcast earlier.

The July Wall Street Journal report cited "a bowled shape, with a bottom of legs and lights up." The Samsung speaker powered by Bixby seems targeted in the market of high-end smart speakers. Bloomberg reports that Samsung places a high priority on the audio quality and functions of the smart home.

Specs

Samsung's Bixby speaker could support the media, such as Apple's AirPlay and Google on Google Home. Already, Samsung's Smart View app for iOS and Android allows you to stream content from providers such as YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and your phone's local media; and TV Plus Channels, streaming channels powered by Samsung's Fandango.

When Samsung launched Bixby in 2016 – revealed for the first time by Digital Trends – it highlighted the wizard's ability to collect information in a single, convenient flow. Bixby Home on the Galaxy S8 displays upcoming reminders and social media updates, and supports third-party services such as CNN, Spotify, Flipboard, Facebook Foursquare and Twitter. Ultimately, Samsung says that it will be able to learn your routine and update to reflect the way you use your phone throughout the day.

Samsung's Bixby loudspeaker will probably support reminders, just like Bixby on the Galaxy S8. They are integrated with the native applications of the Galaxy S8 and allow you to attach media such as videos, websites, photos and messages. You can set a specific time for which you want to see a reminder or even a specific location. When the conditions are met, the reminder will appear in the form of a notification that you can ignore, repeat, or tick.

Updated July 19: The Samsung Bixby speaker will debut August 9 at Samsung Unwrapped Event.
