Samsung quietly announces the launch of Galaxy Tab 6 – and it is today

Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab 6 today at 15:00 Paris time. You might think it's not really amazing news, but you're right, but we're only a week away from this year's Samsung Unpacked event in New York.

Like everyone else, we expected to see on August 7 in Brooklyn the Galaxy Tab S6 and the upcoming launch of the Galaxy Watch Active 2, alongside Samsung's latest phablet, the Galaxy Note 10. A 20-second video ad from Samsung later, however, and we were categorically proved that we were wrong.

The video – which reveals both the Galaxy Tab S6 and the Watch Active 2 – is usually enigmatic, although it sheds some light on some of the features of the Tab S6 so far. The stylus S makes several appearances: at one point, we see it extended at the back of the S6 tab, which suggests that the new tablet will have a groove on the left side (under the camera) in which the S Pen will nestle.

Speaking of which: we see one or two images of the rear row of cameras that extends vertically from the top left corner of the tablet. If leaks are trustworthy, the S6 tablet will have two rear cameras, with open sizes, resolutions, and unknown functions to date.

Otherwise, there are no masses to report. A volume rocker, a power button and a SIM card slot are flashing, but we see very little of the Super AMOLED 10.5-inch display. Samsung says that the tablet "inspires creativity and increases your productivity" – we can only guess at what it might mean.

Fortunately, we will not wait long to fill the gaps; launching the S6 tab today, 31st of July at 15h local time (10am ET, 7pm local time). In addition, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be launched on 5 August; we will have more information about this in a separate article once the smartwatch unveiled.

We will update this page as soon as we learn more about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, so check back soon.
