Scooters of lime discovered 300 km from Marlborough

The Lime scooters, the latest transport trend in New Zealand, went to Marlborough … one way or the other.

But do not download the app for now, Uber-type electric scooters have not yet been deployed in Blenheim.

One of them had been "found" in Blenheim and the other in Picton. They were detained at the Blenheim police station.

The Blenheim community officer, Russ Smith, said the police did not know how the lime scooters had arrived in Marlborough.

Police did not investigate their appearance at random, as no complaints were filed about their disappearance, Smith said.

Although far from home, it was not the first time that electronic scooters were outside their authorized, geo-fenced area.

A rusty scooter and honeybee nest was beached in Auckland at the beginning of the month. Two more had been removed from the Avon River in Christchurch.

The range of a fully loaded electric scooter being estimated at 45 to 60 km, it was therefore unlikely that anyone would drive them over 300 km from Christchurch to Blenheim, or Picton.

Lime launcher Hank Rowe said scooter cases in unauthorized areas were rare.

"Our operations team has been alerted to this incident and is working on scooter recovery," said Rowe.

He added that electric scooters work with GPS and 3G, making it easier to track their position across the country.

The lime "juices" were hired to collect and recharge the scooters, a job that some had found quite lucrative.

Centrifuges earned about $ 7 per scooter picked up and billed, but premiums increased depending on location and the amount remaining.

The lime would not comment on the amount of the bonus for the two scooters that jump from the regions.

Lime scooters were launched in Christchurch and Auckland in October and will soon travel to several other New Zealand cities.

AMI Insurance, Calendar Girls' striptease club and Eden Park in Auckland have taken advantage of the Lime electric scooter craze to market their products and services, while schools, AAs, community groups and a defender Christmas lights had all spurned their concerns about safety.

Smith said the two scooters were picked up by a courier company and returned to Christchurch on Wednesday.

Rowe asked the public to report scooters left in inaccessible or inappropriate areas to the Lime NZ customer service team.
