Soldier in court for a taxi shot

The Namibian Defense Forces member who allegedly killed a taxi driver in the early hours of Thursday appeared in Katutura District Court on Friday morning under the murder charge. His case was postponed until 15 October.

The accused, Gerson Nakale (38), was denied bail by magistrate Johannes Shuuveni.

It is alleged that Nakale was in the company of a policeman during a patrol of "Kalahari Operation in the Desert" when he allegedly shot at the taxi driver who had attempted to turn around to avoid the police roadblock on Monica Street. the informal settlement of Greenwell Matongo.

The Nakale case has been postponed to allow for further police investigations and also allow it to seek legal aid. He was also advised to formally request his release on bail.

Police spokeswoman Kauna Shikwambi confirmed today that the deceased was 22-year-old Fambauone Black from Harare.
