The Institute of Structural Engineers stated that theater is the largest structure in the world only supported by glass. The roof is carbon fiber and weighs about 80 tons. Each glass panel supporting the roof is composed of four layers of plies 12 mm thick. Despite this, the theater is built to withstand earthquakes.

The structural systems were designed so that ducts, sprinkler pipes, data, audio and security systems needed for the roof could be housed in the 30 mm seams between the glass panels. Because Cupertino is in a highly seismic zone, several strategies have been used to protect the structure against seismic activity.

Apple worked closely with Eckersley O'Callaghan & Arup to build the Steve Jobs Theater.
