WINDHOEK – Benjamin Strong, 55, of Windhoek, denied taking part in the death of Johanna Resandt, his 62-year-old girlfriend.
Strong is accused of killing Resandt by stabbing her on September 17, 2017. Resandt died after being stabbed 12 times all over her body. According to the post-mortem report, 12 stab wounds were observed on Resandt's body, with four penetrating wounds in the left pleural cavity.
Before magistrate Johannes Shuuveni last week, Strong pleaded not guilty to preliminary plea. Defense attorney Milton Engelbrecht informed the court that the plea of not guilty was in accordance with his instructions and that it was up to the court to prove the charges against Strong
. plea of guilty on a murder charge, read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act.
The prosecution alleges that Strong deliberately killed Resandt when he repeatedly stabbed him on the date in question
. A witness who took the position during Strong's formal bail hearing, he reportedly saw Strong stabbing Resandt with a knife. The witness explained that he was in the company of the couple who quarreled after a party.
He explained that after witnessing the assault, he tried to intervene but that Strong had assaulted him. According to his memory, Strong knocked him out and he lost consciousness. Witnesses described Strong as an abusive partner
Strong had denied his guilt, saying he found his dead girlfriend on his return in the morning. He even denied being a violent partner during his relationship with Resandt.
Having made his preliminary plea, the State will refer his case to the Attorney General (AG) for decision. The court postponed the case to Oct. 3, for the PG's decision, which ordered Strong to be placed in custody.
