Dr. Itah Kandji-Murangi, MINISTER of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, called for the determination and perseverance of the students who will benefit from the first ever MTC Namibia national internship program. launched in Windhoek.
Kandji-Murangi described the program as the first national revolution in Namibia for internships in education. 160 students will gain experience in different areas of life.
"This program is a deliberate effort on the part of the MTC to allow graduates to access integrated learning for real work. Despite the determination, the commitment, the honesty and the unstoppable will of the graduates to work, most of the time, the doors are closed, for lack of visibility, experience and internship in company. Indeed, partnerships like this one make MTC and its partners an important player in the development of human capital in Namibia, "said Kandji-Murangi.
The internship program is a three-year initiative that will host 160 trainees each year from NUST, UNAM, NIMT and VTCs in various public and private institutions. The MTC will pay an allowance of N $ 3,000 per student over a period of 3 months. If a student needs a six-month internship, an amount of N $ 1,500 will be paid.
Nearly 25 organizations pledged to support the 160 students such as the MVA Fund, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and the Office of the Judiciary, among others.
At the launch, TCM board chair Elvis Nashilongo echoed the sentiments of students often dismissed by employers because of a lack of experience.
"We are calling on employers to abandon the mantra of the demanding work experience of trainees. No one is born with experience and such practice hampers development and social progress, "Nashilongo said.
