The best names of this year

• Baby Center recently unveiled its top 10 names for boys and girls this year.
• Sophia and Jackson were at the top of the list.
• Some names fell off lists while others stood firm.

Baby Center recently unveiled its list of the top 10 names for 2018, and the results are quite consistent with past years.

Regarding the names of girls, Sophia is at the top of the list for the ninth year in a row. In fact, earlier this year, Sophia was named the baby name par excellence for girls worldwide.

The remaining four top five girls' names – Olivia, Emma, ​​Ava and Isabella – were identical to the top five in 2017.

As for the boys, Jackson is at the top of the list for the sixth year in a row. Liam, Noah and Aiden won the second, third and fourth places respectively for the second year in a row, while Caden and Grayson overturned some spots for Lucas.

Layla climbed to the top of the table in 2017, eliminating Zoe from the top 10 (although, at age 11, the name is not too far). For the boys, Oliver expelled Logan from top 10 to 11th.

During the summer, Nameberry has compiled a list of the most popular first names from 2018 until now, which was a little different from the current Baby Center list. Olivia and Ava were the first two girls to figure in the top 10 of the two lists, which may indicate that they are more popular than it appears. As far as boys are concerned, none of the top 10 names were identical.

But it should be noted that the process of compiling these lists is quite different. Nameberry chose its most popular names based on the number of views received by each name for the first half of 2018, interestingly more to the interests of first names than to babies with these names. It is rather a tool for tracking future trends and popularity.

Baby Center, for its part, compiled its 2018 list using data from more than 742,000 parents who shared their baby's name with them in 2018. They also combined similar spellings (Sophia, Sofia for example) to get their results.
