Jess Glynne has been banned from appearing at the Isle of Wight festival after canceling her June 16th set at the last minute. Festival director John Giddings told the Mirror that Glynne's behavior was "shocking" and "shows no respect for those who bought a ticket."
He said: "She will never be booked to play at the Isle of Wight." Glynne did not comment. The Guardian has contacted representatives of the singer.
A spokesman for the festival said Giddings made his remarks at Seaclose Park on Sunday before Glynne's representatives cited exhaustion as the reason for his withdrawal. The singer, 29, then explained that she was "Incredibly weak and full of anxiety" and that "my body sometimes abandons me". She apologized to the fans and added, "I had to do what was right for my physical and mental health."
Glynne's planned performance at the festival followed the conclusion of her Spice Girls tour on their return tour with the last two dates at Wembley Stadium.
Apparently, Glynne responded to accusations that she would have partying with the group until 5 am on the day of her scheduled appearance at the Isle of Wight festival: "It's so frustrating and a load of bullshit and I refuse to make me feel bad. "
She said she would take the week "to recover and get out of the madness".
Jo Loughran, director of Time to Change, the mental health anti-stigma campaign led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, told the Guardian: "Anxiety is a real and sometimes debilitating mental health problem. As with a physical health problem, it can happen that anxiety prevents people from working.
"Anyone suffering from anxiety at this level needs the support and understanding of their employer. We know that people are always afraid to reveal their mental health problem at work. So we need employers to make it clear that those who choose to speak will not be treated differently or negatively, therefore. "
Glynne retired from the Isle of Wight festival in 2015 after a vocal operation, but appeared on the main festival scene the following year. She is one of the most successful contemporary artists in the UK.
