The Nissan Maxima 2019 becomes sharper and safer for its debut in L.A.

Nissan's flagship four-door vehicle gets a new look. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, the company has retired the new Maxima enhanced sedan. Highlights include the new 19-inch wheels, boomerang LED traffic lights and a larger V-shaped grille that fits in the hood. But that only scratches the surface.

The 2019 Maxima has improved in all areas. The new rear fairing adds integrated quad exhaust tips and, just above the trunk, a new sport rear wing (on the SR trim). New wheel designs are available on the five trim levels of the Maxima (S, SV, SL, SR, Platinum), but the aforementioned 19 "Hyper Silver units are exclusively reserved for the Platinum Reserve package. Nissan has also added a new exterior finish, called Sunset Drift, to the color scheme.

Inside, a new seat insert pattern and a charcoal headliner (on the SR and Platinum Reserve sets) enhance the cockpit already similar to the Maxima's cockpit. The Platinum Reserve group also includes for the first time new materials, such as Rakuda Tan leather – the same treatment as the GT-R sports car – as well as satin bronze interior finish treatments and heated rear seats. The SR Premium group has a panoramic double sunroof.

Outside of style, the new Maxima incorporates Nissan's optional Safety Shield 360 driver assistance functions for the first time. Features such as automatic braking with pedestrian detection, warning of blind spot, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, assistance to the driver. Low beam and rear automatic braking are available at the lower trim levels of the Maxima price, but come standard on the Platinum and SR Premium Package grades.

"As our flagship sedan, Maxima is a major contributor to the Nissan brand," said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nissan North America. "Maxima is our oldest brand, it has delighted homeowners for four decades with style, performance and quality."

The new Maxima arrives at Nissan dealers in just a few weeks. buyers can get their hands on the flagship product updated in mid-December. The 3.5-liter V6 producing 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts) is still standard on the market. No price information, but expect a slight increase over the current model, which starts at $ 33,420.
