WINDHOEK – The Namibian Sports Commission officially launched its strategic plan for the years 2018-2022 in Windhoek yesterday.
Freddy Mwiya, chief administrator of the NSC, said at the launch that many consultations had taken place between various stakeholders, including sports federations and the government.
These consultations began in February of this year and were finally approved by Council in August.
He added that the plan had five key objectives: to strengthen development and participation in sport, to improve sport management skills, to ensure respect for the legal and regulatory frameworks of sport, to promote financial autonomy in sport and to strengthen national excellence.
"We have 25 indicators that all lead to a vision, which is an active country that excels in sport. We also want to create at least two per cent of jobs across the country, "said Mwiya.
The document has been fed by the 14 regions of the country and has already been distributed to all the federations and its implementation has begun. "We made sure we were in line with our line ministry's strategic plan to work hand-in-hand with the government.
"We also had the Namibian Women's Sports Association, the Namibian Tertiary Institutes Sports Association and the Namibian School Sport Union," Mwiya said. The plan is available on the NSC website and will be distributed across the country. – Additional report by Nampa
