TJ Doheny suffered the first defeat of his professional career during an exciting showdown with Daniel Roman in California last night.
The unification of the IBF and WBA super richweight titles was a showdown between two very equal competitors, who put themselves under significant pressure from the start.
The two men certainly had their share of memorable moments, the Roman American registering two assists, including a particularly brutal body shot in the eleventh round, and Doheny, who managed to reverse the trend in his favor in the seventh round. .
In the end, the judges marked it as majority decision for the hometown hero – who won two 116-110 score cards while the remaining judge scored it as a draw.
It's certainly not a devastating defeat, but it's a fight that either man could have taken control of, and Doheny will no doubt be looking to get back on track as soon as possible.
It was an electric contest, however, and no man left the arena that night with shame.
Doheny goes 21-1 after this setback, while his opponent Roman's record now stands at 27-2-1.
WHAT A COMBAT! ? Danny Roman is imposed in an incredible battle between two world champions.
