Toyota has already confirmed that the new Supra will derive its desire for a six-cylinder engine online (and hints at its torque output). But a new report out of the US, citing documents from German parts maker ZF Friedrichshafen, suggests that a four-cylinder gasoline engine will also be on offer.

Since the development of the new Supra alongside the future BMW Z4, suspected that the set of six to be used by both will come from the brand-based Munich-based team. And a new transmission document discovered by Road & Track confirms it, citing the Supra as being powered by the 3.0-liter B58B30 engine to a BMW turbocharger, in this case a power 250 kW.

An entry-level version of the Supra, which uses the German manufacturer's 2.0-liter B48B20 turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sends 195 kW to the rear wheels. In addition, Road & Track indicates that Testuya Tada, the Chief Project Engineer Supra, confirmed the plan of a four-pot model during a recent conversation. Goodwood Festival of Speed

. that both versions of the Supra (as well as the new Z4) will make use of an automatic eight-speed ZF transmission.

Interestingly, however, it seems that the 3.0-liter version of Z4 (which should carry the M40i badge) will be offered both with the standard figure of 250 kW and with a slightly higher power, at 280 kW. According to the document, the Z4 four-cylinder derivatives will have powers of 135 kW, 180 kW and 195 kW.
