A body search of two Namibian men who appeared nervous when interviewed by police in Bellville, Western Cape, uncovered uncut diamonds estimated at 1.5 million rand.

Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut, spokesman for the Western Cape Police, said members of the Flying Squad were busy with a stop and search operation on Voortrekker Road in Bellville on Friday afternoon. , drawing their attention to two suspects aged 46 and 53 years.

"The men were interrogated and they seemed nervous. This prompted the members to conduct a body search which revealed two small bags containing 27 diamonds. The men of Namibia have been arrested and must appear in court in Bellville on Monday.

"The circumstances surrounding the case and the origin of the diamonds are still under investigation," said Traut.
