REHOBOTH – Last month, two men arrested for the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman in Rehoboth, appeared for the second time Thursday in the Rehoboth District Court, where they were denied implementation. bail.
Simon Simon and Taba Kavela appeared before Magistrate Desmond Beukes under the rape charge and their case was postponed until April 18, 2019 for further investigation.
The victim was allegedly raped on February 15 at around 4:00 am in a block E house.
The incident was however reported to the police only on February 22nd.
Police reports indicated that the victim and his friends were in the company of the two suspects in a local club. The three men then went to the home of one of the suspects, where she would have been restrained and raped by both men.
Attorney General Victor Mutumbulwa objected to the granting of bail, as investigations are still in their infancy and Kavela already has a similar charge pending against him. He said the defense lawyers had requested a formal bail hearing.
Simon was represented by Ernstine Jansen, while Kavela was represented by Christopher Stanley.
The defendants are detained in the detention cells of the Rehoboth police.
Also in the Rehoboth case, a 32-year-old man arrested on February 22 for possession and sale of psychotropic substances, appeared for the third time in the Rehoboth Court of First Instance.
The accused, Christopher Leppen, also appeared before Magistrate Beukes under two counts of possession of drugs and trade in addictive substances.
His case was postponed until May 6 for further investigation and publication of laboratory results.
The arrest took place at the accused's home in Block F. He was denied bail and was also remanded in police cells. from Rehoboth.
Leppen said that he would take care of his own defense.
