Several local stars have been included in the two national netball teams announced this weekend on the eve of the Diamond Challenge tournament against four other countries in southern Africa.
South Africa will be represented by SPAR Proteas as well as by President XII, who will present some of the rising stars of the game.
After a week-long training camp, the two teams were chosen to compete in five days of scintillating battles in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia at the Ngoako Ramathlodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Limpopo, from November 27th to November 1st. December.
Speaking at the announcement, National Coach Norma Plummer said that she was extremely pleased with the standard of camp players and that she had been able to select the Strongest SPAR Protea team possible.
"We will respect all the Diamond Challenge teams and we will work hard to win these games with confidence. African teams are playing a unique style of netball and our girls have to adapt to this style, "Plummer told the question about South Africa's dominance in previous tournaments.
Plummer said it was important that Presidents XII be part of the Diamond Challenge.
"We need to develop the next group of athletes with international experience because they are the SPAR Proteas teammates and in case of injury, President XII will give us alternative options," she explained.
Bongi Msomi of Kwazulu-Natal has been named captain of the SPAR Proteas team, while former pupil of Hoërskool Zwartkop in Centurion, Karla Pretorius, will be vice-captain.
"I'm confident for the Diamond Challenge. We have a strong and strong team. The competition will not be easy, as African countries are constantly improving and are eager to impress against SPAR Proteas, "said Pretorius after being named vice-captain.
The Proteas will play their first match against their neighbors Namibia. The matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 8.
