UNAM celebrates International Archives Day with an exhibition

Next week, the University of Namibia (UNAM) will celebrate International Archives Day with an exhibition on the theme "Archives: Governance, Memory and Heritage"

. the importance of good record keeping, which is the first process to ensure that records are created, filed and stored so that they can be retrieved as quickly as possible.

According to the head of the Department of Archives and Special Collections, Ndahambelela Iipinge, the official opening on July 17, will include discussions on the importance of keeping records and archives, as well as on the context of the archives selected by the applicants.

The event will also see the official handover of two new publications to the UNAM library by Lieutenant-General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, author and retired chief of the Namibian Defense Force.

Iipinge said that the private collections were deposited with the UNAM library. because of the educational relationship that individual applicants have with the University, as well as their contributions to teaching, learning and research.

The exhibition will feature the private archives of Professor Peter Katjavivi who is the founding Vice Chancellor of UNAM and the current Speaker of Parliament, Professor Emeritus of UNAM, the regretted Dr. Mose Tjitendero, founding President of Parliament, has contributed to the success of the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN). he directed and taught Namibians in exile and the private archives of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission (FELM).
