Bottas' first benchmark of 1m37.231s was enough to remain the second best time, neither he nor Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who finished with a 1.1 second gap on Vettel, established a faster time in the afternoon.

The late arrest of Raikkonen has terminated Sauber prematurely since 2001 for his first productive day.

Lance Stroll took third place for Racing Point Force India when the session resumed, after making his debut in the team for which he has not yet been announced as race driver for 2019.
In the last hour, Stroll clocked a time of 1m37.909, which was ahead of Sergio Perez, the morning driver of Verstappen and Force India.
Lando Norris took sixth place in the afternoon for McLaren, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg.
The Renault driver was back at the wheel less than 48 hours after the thunder of Sunday's GP in Abu Dhabi.
F1 debutant Pietro Fittipaldi unleashed a red flag early in the day when his Haas stopped on the track. It took several hours before he joined the club to change his Ferrari engine.
Fittipaldi made a series of improvements when he found the track just before the last hour and – after a break because of a red flag caused by Raikkonen – went up to the eighth place.

Robert Kubica succeeded his Williams teammate in 2019, George Russell, for the afternoon and beat the time of the Formula 2 champion by three tenths to finish ninth.
Various improvements allowed Raikkonen to return 11th, ahead of Toro Rosso, Sean Gelael.
The test will end on Wednesday as the teams will have their last chance to evaluate the 2019 Pirelli compounds and compare them to the 2018 versions.
No information is retained during this test, unlike the blind comparisons that take place during testing during the development phase of the compound, and the configuration changes are open.
Charles Leclerc will drive for Ferrari for the first time since his confirmation as a 2019 race driver, as well as Pierre Gasly for Red Bull and Carlos Sainz for McLaren – while Daniil Kvyat is due to return to the Toro Rosso track.
