An investigation revealed that a woman had been found dead at home with a cocktail of drugs in her system.
Solo Saunders, of Arden Close, Colchester, was discovered by her husband in their hallway on July 23, 2018.
Paramedics rushed home, but the 44-year-old died on the scene.
The Chelmsford Coroner's Court heard on Tuesday at Solo's investigation that she had been found inactive.
An autopsy was performed at the Colchester Hospital, which had revealed that she had died as a result of A1 suffocation due to a hanging.
The coroner's court heard that Solo had been drinking alcohol and had also been using cocaine, which could have affected his judgment.
The results of a toxicology report revealed that there was a substantial amount of alcohol in his blood as well as cocaine and sleeping pills.
Inspector Stuart Colbear, of the Essex Police, was called to the scene shortly before 7 o'clock.
He added: "Two policemen arrived at the scene and I had to be called because of the circumstances.
"The paramedics were present but the death had already been confirmed.
"I peeked around to make sure there was nothing wrong with it.
"It was a reason to make sure that there was no third party involvement."
He confirmed that there was nothing suspicious and that no one else was involved in Solo's death.
The coroner's court heard that Solo was born in Namibia, in southwestern Africa.
She lived in Colchester with her husband who had participated in the investigation with a friend.
Coroner Caroline Beasley Murray told Solo's husband: "I would like to express my condolences in these very sad circumstances."
Ms. Beasley Murray recorded the verdict as an open conclusion stating that there was not enough evidence for another conclusion.
She added, "She was clearly very much loved by you and you seemed to be very loyal to her.
"I express my sympathy for your loss."
