ONGWEDIVA – Young people from the Oshana region have said they want to appoint a young governor in place of outgoing President Clemens Kashuupulwa, who was named yesterday ambassador of Namibia to Russia.
Kashuupulwa, 70, has been Governor of Oshana for 20 years, since 1998.
According to young people, the region needs a governor who understands his needs, which will help the government deal with their problems.
"We want a governor who understands the economic situation of this country, a governor who sees the current youth in the future of Namibia because we are the future leaders," said Agatus Antanga, secretary of the People's Democratic Movement (PDM) in Oshana. Antanga said he expected a governor ready to lead without fear or favoritism.
"I want a governor who brings together all the residents of Oshana and does not discriminate against age group or political affiliation. But the most important is one that can ensure equal and fair development in the region, "said Antanga.
Activist AR in the Osna Pau Pau region said that he was expecting a governor ready to serve the masses. "I want to see a governor educated, young, promising, free, corrupt and fearless. It's a party that is pro-people and not appointed to political positions, "said Pau Pau. Michael Mwinga, special advisor to Kashuupulwa, who served the outgoing governor for seven years. said that Kashuupulwa's shoes were too big to be filled. "It is the responsibility of the head of state, but a person of quality, such as that of my governor, would be beneficial for the region. He was truly a remarkable man, "said Mwinga. Oshana Regional Manager Martin Elago shared Mwinga's feelings, describing the outgoing regional leader as a hardworking man.
"He is very hardworking and is always available for any task at hand. I only wish we have someone of the same caliber, "Elago said.
