The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Victor Matemadanda, appeared in court today and testified in a case where he had lost $ 600 for the benefit of a fake magistrate.

The "conman", Tinashe Munhuweyi, deceived Matemadanda by calling him a former judge of the Bulawayo Supreme Court, Judge Mafios Cheda, and having blocked him.

The 36-year-old accused Munhuweyi also allegedly stole money from senior figures such as Bubi legislator Matemadanda, Richard Moyo (Zanu PF), and Professor Ben Siyakwazi from Great Zimbabwe University.

Matemadanda told the court today that he was shocked by the inhuman behavior of his conmans, who took advantage of the elderly to give them money, telling them that they were supposed to watch them.

However, the defrauding accused denied allegations that Matemadanda paid the investigators and gave them the fuel he denied.

Munhuweyi also told the court that he had never benefited from Matemadanda except through his services to the public through the government.

According to the circumstances, on 17 September 2018, Munhuweyi allegedly contacted Matemadanda on the pretext of being Judge Cheda and falsely claimed that two trucks had run out of gas at the Chirundu border post.

He would have asked for $ 600 to refuel the trucks and pay other expenses.

The state also states that Munhuweyi allegedly asked Matemadanda to transfer the money to an Ecocash account provided and promised to repay the debt as soon as possible.

After the transaction, Munhuweyi would have become evasive.

Matemadanda subsequently conducted his own investigations and discovered that he had been deceived and reported the fact that had led to the arrest of the accused.

Using the same modus operandi, Munhuweyi contacted a professor, Ben Siyakwazi, of the Great University of Zimbabwe, and lied about the fact that he was Judge Cheda and was currently working in Namibia.

Munhuweyi said that he was in South Africa and that he was seeking medical care. He further told Siyakwazi that he was facing serious problems and had asked the plaintiff to assist his son, Christian Cheda, who he said was studying at Makerere University in Uganda.

He alleged that his son's vehicle was confiscated by a mechanic from Harare for non-payment of repairs.

The court heard that Munhuweyi had ordered Siyakwazi to transfer $ 400 to an Ecocash account registered in the name of Patience Muchenje.

He later alleged that his son had been involved in a car accident shortly after picking up the vehicle at the mechanic's and had been admitted to Beatrice Hospital, which led the applicant to send him the 39, additional money, for a total of $ 7,263.

On September 28, a friend of Siyakwazi went to the home of Judge Cheda in Bulawayo to inquire about the injured son, only to discover that they had been fooled. Siyakwazi then reported the case to the police.

Using the same procedure, Munhuweyi fooled Naboth's son, former High Court Judge Simpson Mutambanengwe, for $ 2,300.

Bubi legislator Moyo lost $ 1,500 to Munhuweyi and Rudo Kariramombe lost $ 1,088. Nothing has been found.
