The Juno probe studies the composition, gravity and magnetic field of the planet to allow astronomers to understand the formation of Jupiter.

NASA showed incredible images of Jupiter with a mysterious black spot. The Juno probe, which examines the largest planet in the solar system since 2016, took the photo on 12 September. It is actually a huge shadow projected by the moon Io Jupiter as she passed in front of the Sun.

Eclipses are not an extraordinary event on Jupiter – it has 79 moons – but the photo shows the magnitude of Jupiter. The shadow of Io is the size of the Earth.

Io herself does not deserve less attention. Discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei, it is the fourth largest moon in the solar system and the most geologically active object. It has more than 400 active volcanoes spewing lava and gasoline up to 300 miles. There are also more than 100 mountains on Io. Some of them are bigger than Mount Everest.

Although NASA has explained the origin of Jupiter's mysterious dark spot, social media users have come up with their own versions.

A flawless stay
