Two NASA programs on historical events in space exploration have attracted Emmy nominations for interactive programming, but will the space agency win a statue?

NASA's coverage of its InSight landing on Mars in November 2018 earned it its first Emmy nomination in 2019 for its unique original interactive program, in recognition of its efforts in the news, web education, television and social media.

SpaceX Crew Dragon Emmy from NASA

The second Emmy nomination concerns NASA's coverage of the flight of SpaceX's first SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft in March 2019 on an unarmed test flight. During this test flight, called Demonstration Mission 1, SpaceX launched a human crew spacecraft, the Crew Dragon, bound for the International Space Station and on its return, for a makeshift cruise for any crewed missions. It was the first spacecraft with a crew capacity developed by the private to visit the space station.

The NASA Emmy nominations are part of the Creative Arts Emmys, which are being awarded this weekend (Sept. 14-15) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. According to NASA, a modified version of the ceremonies will be broadcast on September 21 on the FXX cable channel and will be part of the 71st edition of Primetime Emmys aired September 22.
