This strange assertion is based on images from the 1972 Apollo 17 lunar mission.
Astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt explore the surface of the moon and turn to the camera.
The reflection of the sun is visible in their two helmets – but a "researcher" says that everything is not what it seems.
She says, "Here's a screenshot of a video footage provided by NASA. Without changing anything, you can clearly see that The Sun is a projector.
"This is not the real Sun, it's a projector in a movie studio.
"You can clearly see that this is a light based on a type of metal case around the projector.
"Those two do not walk on the moon, if you have the keen eye, you can see that there is even a person standing there.
"You can see his legs and a dark jacket, it's almost like he's holding his hands in his pockets."
"It's not the real sun, it's a projector in a movie studio"
Follower of the conspiracy theory
Next week marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Mission.
A host of conspiracy theories have also emerged around him and have continued at NASA ever since.
Some claimed that the astronauts involved had been "pushed back" to hide top secret information about NASA programs – although they had no evidence.
The deaths of astronauts Virgil Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee in 1967 is often the cause of this incident.
They were killed in a devastating fire on the Apollo launch pad during a simulation.
The inside of the control module caught fire and each was asphyxiated – the source of the fire was never determined.
However, there was no indication of foul play.
