NBA rumors: the Warriors “very active” in trade negotiations with the No. 7 choice

A week to go.

The 2021 NBA Draft is scheduled for July 29, and all eyes are on the Warriors. Golden State has a rare opportunity with two lottery picks at # 7 and # 14 this year. Will the Warriors keep them both or throw at least one in a trade package?

In his latest mock draft, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reported Thursday morning, citing league sources, that the Warriors are “very active in trade talks” surrounding their top pick.

Speculation can rage without any name attached to commercial rumors. There should, however, be some big stars available. Imagine Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, Pascal Siakam or some other star teaming up with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

There’s no doubt that’s what Bob Myers, Joe Lacob and Co. are doing right now.

The Warriors’ window of opportunity is narrowing. Curry has just led the NBA in scoring, but he’s 33. Thompson has missed two consecutive seasons with leg injuries and is 31 years old. Green can still be a defensive anchor, but he’s just had his worst offensive season in years and is 31 years old.

Of course, the Warriors want sustained, long-term success, and players like James Wiseman and two lottery picks can help. At the same time, they cannot lose the Hall of Fame three player bounty. Time is passing.

It is unclear at this time who the Warriors are focused on trading. What we do know is that a lot can happen in a week.
