NBDA launches an ambitious consumption study with partners

IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) – The National Bicycle Dealers Association is conducting a detailed consumer study that will examine Americans’ post-pandemic bicycle buying habits. The dealership association is looking for partners to share the cost of the study, which they say has been one of the most ambitious in the U.S. industry since at least 2014.

The NBDA is working with Sports Marketing Surveys to conduct the study and Human Powered Solutions to provide the analysis.
Keith Storey, president of SMS, said the study will quantify bicycle and e-bike buying habits, including how Americans buy bikes and how they interact with bike stores.

“An important question is how big is the new rider segment, how big is it – and what is its long-term potential? Said upstairs.

SMS will oversee the conduct of interviews with adult cyclists in the United States. The survey results will be balanced to represent all adult cyclists by age, gender, income and region. A cluster analysis will be prepared using demographic, behavioral and attitudinal data to create the market segments.

The plan was to complete the interviews by the end of August and to have the segmentation study report available for distribution by the end of September.

The results will go to the sponsors first, who will receive a special report in recognition of their financial support for the study, followed by the standard reports available to NBDA members and anyone wishing to purchase a copy, said Brad Hughes, Managing Director of Human Powered. Solutions.

NBDA President Heather Mason said the study results “will be critical in helping our industry plan for the future. This data is essential for proper planning to ensure continued success across the board. industry, ”she said.

In August, the NBDA also announced that more brands, distributors and other members of the industry have joined the association as associate members.

New associate members include Giant Bicycles, SRAM, Time, Rockshox, Zipp, Tern, Highway 2, Alta Cycling Group, Kuat and Assos. Existing associate members include Specialized, Bianchi, Norco, Pivot, Brooklyn Bicycle Co., QBP, HLC, JBI, SmartEtailing, Clearly, Frog, BikeFlights, LightSpeed ​​and Bosch Ebike Systems.

NBDA membership is open to all North American retailers, mobile operators, individuals (including retail employees, independent and brand representatives, tour guides, assemblers and mechanics). Associate Membership is open to individuals, businesses, partnerships, or corporations that serve as industry suppliers or are closely associated with the industry.

Associate Membership allows Partners to participate in all events organized by the NBDA, including weekly member networking, virtual events and webinars. Mason said NBDA staff work closely with association members and retailers to ensure there is an opportunity for cross-communication.
