The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will provide an update on the state’s COVID-19 vaccine supply on Tuesday.
A specific time for the announcement has not been released.
The update will come as eligible groups who did not receive their first dose express frustration and clinics struggle to keep up with requests.
On Monday, the Orange County health department said its clinic was running out of first doses and it was not clear when they would receive more from the state. Orange County has sent out a notice saying that until the supply is dramatically increased, it could be weeks or even months before everyone in phase 1 and 2 is vaccinated.
In Cumberland County and Lee County, clinics are open primarily for those receiving their second dose of the vaccine.
Other counties, including Wake, received less vaccines than they expected this week and are slowing their vaccination process by appointment only as a result.
In Durham, county leaders are preparing to add a new mass vaccination site to the distribution process, which would have the capacity to immunize around 45,000 people per week.
Mass vaccination sites have already been set up in other parts of the state, including Charlotte and Greenville.
