Raleigh, North Carolina – NC State University is requiring masks in interior spaces on campus until further notice, starting Monday, August 2.
The new guidelines are part of updated security measures offered by the school, which emailed the campus community on Friday.
The requirement is mandatory for people in buildings regardless of their vaccination status. Masks are mandatory for students, faculty, staff and visitors with a few exceptions:
- The person is alone in a private and closed room, apartment or office of the university residence with the door closed.
- The person is in an enclosed interior space when only members of the household are present.
- The person is actively eating or drinking.
Masks are not mandatory outdoors for those vaccinated, but they are encouraged to do so. Face covers are also required on the Wolfline, the school bus system.
NCSU says students are not required to be vaccinated, but vaccination is strongly encouraged. People living in university accommodation who have not provided proof of school vaccination will need to participate in weekly surveillance tests on campus.
“The updated requirements described above, along with additional existing measures, will remain in place while our university spends at least the first few weeks of the fall semester,” part of the email read.
Governor Roy Cooper on Thursday strongly urged businesses and schools to mask themselves and ask people to get vaccinated based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
