Have a good evening and welcome to the NCWLIFE evening news. I am Grant Olson. Before we get into what’s in the news, let’s take a look outside our weather window:
And now, some of the stories we’re following for you tonight, In another sign that this particularly volatile fire season is drawing to a close, Chelan County Commissioners today lowered the fire danger level. county from very high to high. The Chelan and Douglas Counties Emergency Allocation System has a new boss, we’ll tell you who and proposals to redesign Washington’s legislative districts were released yesterday, and they could show the future shape of the 12th North Central District. Washington.
But first, our top story tonight. . .
highway. 2 Death ID – Authorities on Tuesday identified the woman found dead two weeks ago east of the Stevens Pass summit, and said her homicide could be linked to a burning vehicle the same day in Snohomish County. Callie Childers, a 25-year-old woman from Marysville, was found dead in homicidal violence on September 7 on the shoulder of Highway 2, eight miles east of the pass at kilometer 73. Investigators now say that his car, a black 2013 Chrysler 200, was discovered burning on the Lowell-Snohomish River Highway, just west of the town of Snohomish. Childers was last known to be living homeless in the Everett area. Authorities have not disclosed the specific cause of his death. Anyone with information about the death of Childers or his vehicle is asked to call the Chelan County Sheriff’s hotline at 509-667-6845.
Fire Danger Update – Another sign that this particularly volatile fire season is drawing to a close, Chelan County Commissioners today lowered the county’s fire danger level from very high to high. The lower designation allows recreational campfires in designated areas, such as campgrounds. The county has also reopened Horse Lake Road to recreation. The road leading to the trails in the foothills has been closed since early August due to the risk of forest fires. Chelan County Fire Marshal Bob Plumb has warned that without rain conditions will likely remain extremely dry until fall.
RiverCom is reorganizing itself -The Chelan and Douglas counties emergency dispatch system has a new boss. Lowell Porter is the former director of Pierce County Emergency Management and spent a year as the head of the Washington State Patrol. Current Director Misty Viebrock, who has been with RiverCom for approximately 25 years, becomes Deputy Director. RiverCom’s board says reorganization is needed as the agency faces a critical staff shortage. About ten positions at the dispatch center are to be filled. RiverCom coordinates the response for each police, fire and ambulance service in the Wenatchee Valley.
Redistribution proposals -Proposals to redesign the legislative districts of Washington were released yesterday, and they may show the future shape of the 12th District of North Central Washington. The state’s four-member redistribution commission consists of two Republicans and two Democrats, and they must redesign local districts to meet a goal of around 157,000 people each. The two Republican proposals would leave the 12 largely as is, with a few extensions around the corner. A Democratic proposal would place Okanogan County in the 7th district and extend the 12th as far east as the town of Sprague; the other would extend the 12th through the Cascades, extending west to Monroe. The four commissioners continue to seek public comments on the redistribution plans. You can email them at [email protected].
