Nearly 3,000 passengers and crew disembark from a Dream Cruises ship on Wednesday after being confined to their cabins when a passenger tested positive for Covid-19.
All passengers and crew aboard World Dream’s three-night Singapore “Cruise to Nowhere” were required to self-isolate in their cabins, with only essential crew members allowed to travel throughout. ship.
The guest had undergone a rapid antigen test before boarding the cruise which came back negative, but contact tracing revealed that the guest was a close contact of a confirmed case of Covid-19. The guest was then immediately isolated and tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, Genting Cruise Line-owned Dream Cruises said in a statement.
Other guests aboard the ship were confined to their rooms at 1 a.m. local time, according to a Reuters report. Travelers started to leave the ship around 8:30 p.m.
The guest’s travel companions have all tested negative for the virus and will disembark on an itinerary separate from other passengers, as well as those who have come into contact with the guest. The passenger who tested positive disembarked hours before the other guests and crew.
Contact tracing was performed by tracking handheld devices, key cards, and guest CCTV footage.
All other customers are required to complete contactless automatic departure forms before leaving their room and must pass a rapid antigen test at Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Center upon disembarking, the company said.
Dream Cruises said guests are required to stay in their cabins until the crew instruct them to disembark.
There were 1,646 passengers and 1,249 crew aboard the ship, Dream Cruises said.
The cruise line also canceled a two-night World Dream cruise that was scheduled to depart on Wednesday.
This is the cruise line’s first positive Covid-19 test since departures from Singapore resumed in November 2020. World Dream has made 103 departures with more than 130,000 guests as of July 11.
In December, nearly 1,700 passengers on a Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas ship were forced to self-isolate in their cabins for more than 16 hours due to a suspected case of Covid.
