Nearly twice as many women as men have been vaccinated against COVID in Oregon

Oregon does a better job of vaccinating its population than California or Washington, according to national data compiled by Bloomberg News, and it also does better than the average state. The figures show that Oregon vaccinated a higher percentage of its population than these two neighboring states and used a higher percentage of the vaccines given to it.

The improvement comes at a time when the overall number of cases in the state is on a downward trend, a trend the Oregon Health Authority said in a Jan. 29 briefing it expects – cautiously – to continue if Oregonians continue to practice social distancing and wear masks.

“As of January 13, our statewide reproduction rate was 0.81,” the agency said. “This means that every case of COVID-19 spreads to less than one other person.

“According to the latest forecast, if we continue to wear masks, maintain physical distance and restrict our gathering sizes, daily COVID-19 cases will decrease to an average of 420 per day, and COVID-related hospitalizations. 19 will decrease from 13 per day. ”(On Saturday, the OHA announced 707 new cases and 19 new deaths.)
