Badrinath Ki Dulhania celebrity Alia Bhatt made her acting debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year alongside Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Since then, Alia has impressed audiences with her acting prowess in many projects including Raazi, Udta Punjab, among others. During her ten-year career, the diva has managed to carve out a place for herself in the world of showbiz. However, not many people know that Alia has a taste for choice of scripts. On her road to achieving the fame she enjoys today, Alia has also refused to be a part of many projects. Here we have curated a list of five movies that were turned down by her.

Raabta

Based on the concept of reincarnated Cursed Lovers, Dinesh Vijan directed Raabta with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. However, it is assumed that before approaching Kriti, the directors wanted Alia to be the film’s headliner. Apparently, Alia’s busy schedule didn’t allow her to schedule dates for this romantic action thriller.

Neerja

Sonam Kapoor’s biographical thriller, Neerja recounted the heinous real-life hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan. Sonam tries out the role of the brave flight attendant, Neerja Bhanot, who sacrificed her life saving the other passengers on board. Several media portals claim that Alia was also in talks for the film, however, the directors were not convinced of Alia Bhatt’s size and the role ended up with Sonam Kapoor.

Hindustan thugs

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the action-adventure Thugs of Hindostan features an ensemble cast that includes Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, among others. Rumors were that Alia rejected the project, claiming that the female lead did not add importance to the plot of the film. Later, Fatima Sana Shaikh was hired for the role.

saaho

Sujeeth directed the stars of Saaho Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role. Media suggests that when Alia was approached for the film, she turned down the offer saying the female lead character only supported the male lead character.

Golmaal again

Director Rohit Shetty would have liked Alia Bhatt to play Parineeti Chopra in this comedy-horror. However, it is speculated that Alia couldn’t say yes to the film as she had already given her dates to fulfill other professional commitments.
