Manchester United have lost six of their last eight games and the midfielder has been outspoken in his assessment of the loss to Everton.

Nemanja Matic lamented the lack of leaders at Manchester United, while the experienced midfielder took responsibility for the 4-0 defeat in the Premier League on Sunday at Everton.

United were Everton, who sentenced the Red Devils to their fifth consecutive away loss in all competitions – the club's worst series of defeats since March 1981.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United have lost six of their last eight games and Matic has been outspoken in their evaluation of the Goodison Park rout after the match.

"The biggest problem was that we did not have leaders on the field," said Matic, 30, at the Astro Stadium.

"In this case, me, because I'm one of the most experienced guys on the team, if we do not win this battle in the middle, it's difficult for our team.

"If anyone should be blamed for this game, it's me.

"I think I'm most responsible because I'm one of the most experienced guys in the locker room."

United – sixth in the Premier League and two points behind Arsenal (fourth) – hosts Manchester City at Old Trafford for Wednesday's derby.

Their rivals in Crosstown are currently two points behind Liverpool as Man City looks to win another Premier League title.

United, meanwhile, will play matches against Chelsea, Huddersfield and Cardiff to conclude the Premier League season as they try to secure a spot in the Champions League, which will be Solskjaer's first full campaign at the club's head.
