Nestlé USA, owner of the frozen pizza brand, has recalled a batch of 26-ounce cans labeled DiGiorno Crispy Pan Crust Pepperoni Pizzas because they actually contain Three Meat Crispy Pan Crust Pizza. Three-meat pizza contains soy protein – it’s found in beef topping and sausage crumbs – and can be harmful to people with allergies to soy.
The company said it became aware of the issue after being contacted by a consumer. The affected boxes have a manufacture date of June 30, 2021 and an expiration date of March 2022. The lot code on the items is 1181510721.
The recall involves 27,872 pounds of pizza, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
These products have been shipped to distribution centers and retailers across the country, the USDA noted. The agency and Nestlé both recommended that people who bought the affected pizzas to throw them away or bring them back.
Nestlé said that if you are not allergic to soy, you should be able to eat the pizzas safely.
