African swine fever was detected on a pig farm in Romania with 45,000 animals. The entire company is locked and all pigs are cleaned. In the meantime, Europe is developing a vaccine.

The infection was detected last week in a department of 600 animals. The Romanian Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) reported on Monday, July 2 that all animals were being cleaned. Carcasses of slaughtered pigs are also destroyed. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense, they are incinerated in incinerators

The company is located in Tulcea District, on the border with Ukraine. In early June, the Romanian authorities reported outbreaks in this area. These farms were probably infected because the wild boar crossed the border of Ukraine

Vaccine development
To stop the virus's advance, the European Commission is working on the development of A vaccine. This does not currently exist. The Commission will allocate up to 10 million euros for this.
