The Senate today speaks of the abolition of the consultative referendum. The debate starts at 10:15 am and lasts until late tonight, but the tension is a little weak, says NOS reporter Xander van der Wulp.
Next week the vote is likely and it looks like the VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie coalition parties to be, just like the opposition SGP party. Together, these five parties have 40 seats in the Senate of 75 seats and therefore a majority.
The coalition parties agreed in the coalition agreement that the referendum should be abolished. VVD and CDA, in particular, found that it did not work and they received ChristenUnie and D66 quite easily, says Van der Wulp.
The abolition of the referendum is sensitive to the D66 democratization party. Recently, 50 party members, under the leadership of former MP Boris van der Ham, have written a critical opinion article on the elimination of ideals. 50Plus should ask that the law not be ratified before August 1. On that date, the judge ruled against the holding of a referendum on the abolition of the consultative referendum. "But it's also in vain, is the expectation," according to Van der Wulp. "It looks like the end of next week is a referendum."
Two consultative referendums have taken place since the arrival: one on a cooperation treaty with Ukraine and one on the new intelligence law Wiv. Both referendums were won by the opponents.
