Measures such as intensive hunting and not feeding wild boars must be conducted to reduce the risk of African swine fever epidemic. In case of epidemic, According to experts consulted by the European Food Safety Authority EFSA
African swine fever virus will be less able to propagate as the density of the wild boar population. However, researchers have not been able to determine how low the density should be in order to ensure that the virus does not spread further, and the use of contraceptives is also a option to control the pile of wild boars, but there are also disadvantages, among others because of the possible presence of ron residues in the meat of wild boar
The dislodging or restraint of wild animals with odor or light has proved unsuccessful in experiments. Placing electrified fences can make moving the boar harder, but no barrier is 100% resistant to wild boar. To make the data more comparable, the way in which information on wild boar is collected in the European Union needs to be harmonized. That is why EFSA is funding the ENETWILD project aimed at collecting and harmonizing data on the geographical distribution and number of wild boars in Europe
